Best Things To Do In Antigua
The island nation of Antigua and Barbuda is home to many beautiful sights and adventurous activities for families. With local restaurants and loads of water activities, there is something for everyone. Explore some of the highlights of Antigua down below!
Visit Prickly Pear Island
Prickly Pear Island is off the coast of the main island of Antigua, just a five-minute boat ride from Hodges Bay Resort. Prickly Pear is a tiny island with crystal clear waters and a large reef just off the shore that is perfect for snorkeling. Chairs and a bar with alcoholic and non-alcoholic are available with lots of space to lounge on the sand. It is also free if you are staying at the Hodges Bay Resort. Relaxing and snorkeling around Prickly Pear Island is one of the best ways to spend an afternoon in Antigua.
2. Eat at Casa Roots Restaurant
Casa Roots is a delicious beachfront restaurant with exquisite views of the ocean. The beach behind Casa Roots is the perfect photo-op during sunset. The seating and experience inside the restaurant were really enjoyable with comfortable chairs and good accommodation for larger groups. The menu had many tasty options that suited all dietary needs and restrictions. As a vegetarian, I thought all of the dishes were delectable and were the best I had in all of Antigua. Stop for dinner at Casa Roots beachfront restaurant for some flavorful eats and gorgeous views.
3. Devil’s Bridge
Devil’s Bridge is Antigua’s most breathtaking place to visit. At Devil’s Bridge, waves crashed against the rock to naturally form an arch or bridge. The landscape is one-of-a-kind and lies in a secluded area, virtually in the middle of nowhere. This site was so peaceful and calming with the only sound being the crashing of the waves. It is free to visit and doesn’t involve any kind of hiking. The bridge and surrounding blowholes can be viewed from the car or by walking up closer to the cliff. Devil’s Bridge is by far the most unique and magnificent sight to see in all of Antigua.
4. Diving with Indigo Divers
While Antigua isn’t necessarily known for its diving, Indigo Divers made diving there such an incredible experience. The owners, Pats and her husband, were so friendly and professional. Pats gave a thorough safety briefing, which greatly helped in the water, and made sure everyone was comfortable. Our diving group had several newer divers (my sister pictured above!) and all of the dives were doable and enjoyable. All of the rental equipment was in good condition and Pats and her husband are flexible in helping set up any personal equipment you may have. I highly recommend diving with Indigo Divers when you visit Antigua, whether you are a beginner or an experienced diver!
5. Reef Riders
Reef Riders Antigua is a thrilling snorkeling family adventure! This activity was the highlight of our trip to Antigua and Tigger was an amazing tour guide. During this excursion, your group will get to take individual speedboats (2 riders per boat) out to a snorkeling site where you will snorkel at a reef with abundant wildlife and use reef rays to pull you through the water. The owners, Rachel and Andy, were so kind and accommodating. All of the COVID precautions were taken and every part of the excursion felt safe. Reef Riders allows a group as large as 11 and requires only about 3 hours. Make sure to load up on sunscreen and bring a minimal amount of non-waterproof items. If you only do one activity in Antigua with your family, book Reef Riders!
