Nanuku Auberge: Fiji
The Nanuku Auberge Resort is located on the southern tip of Fiji and is a 2 and a half hour car ride or a 25 minute scenic charter flight from the Nadi International Airport. However, the long journey is well worth it. In this post, I will lay out the many family-friendly features of this amazingly beautiful five-star hotel.
Rooms
Nanuku Auberge has a variety of different room sizes to suit all guests from couples to large families. Our family stayed in a two bedroom villa with an extra outdoor guest house. All rooms come with Fijian design and breathtaking views, whether it be beachfront or ocean and garden. They also include a nanny, or “buddy”, for each child, and a Villa Mama, who helps plan your itinerary and with anything else you may need. The room was spacious, which I personally appreciated because I felt that we each had our own space. Every room features it’s own amenities, such as an outdoor shower, a pool, a full kitchen, multiple levels, and more.
The resort is spread out giving all guests much privacy and the ability to relax all day without leaving your room.
The rooms and bathrooms are kept very clean and housekeeping is offered in the daytime and turn down service in the evening. All of the suites, villas, and residences are updated and have easy access to the main clubhouse, restaurant, beach, and pool. The accommodations at Nanuku Auberge are just a slice of Fijian paradise.
Food + Drink
Nanuku Auberge Resort has one main restaurant, the Kanavata Restaurant and Lounge, located in the clubhouse. Kanavata serves all three meals with an a la carte breakfast and lunch and daily-changing three course dinner. And of course, it wouldn’t be a family resort without a kid’s menu for each meal.
The Wai Pool Bar is the best place for drinks and snacks (taro chips!) throughout the day. It is located next to both the beach and pool for easy access right from the water.
Activities
Rain or shine, we were never bored at Nanuku. The list of family-friendly activities is never ending. In the water, there is a wildlife-packed reef just off the shore in the Beqa Lagoon, which makes for great snorkeling, and snorkeling gear is provided. You can plant coral in the resort’s coral garden, paddle board or kayak, or rent a jet ski for the afternoon.
On land, a variety of games are available, such as pool and foosball, or you can weave a basket or participate in a traditional Kava ceremony. My siblings and I stayed busy playing pool and the other beach activities. There is also a fully-equipped gym with fitness and morning yoga classes.
Nanuku Auberge owns a private island (pictured in gallery) just a 20 minute boat ride from a marina near the resort. It can be rented out for half or full day times and features shallow and clear waters and white sand with a variety of water sports and snorkeling.
Lastly, every room comes with a buddy (mentioned above) and my siblings, who are 6 and 9, were inseparable from theirs, Matt. The Lailai Kids Adventure Club is one of the best we’ve ever experienced because of the endless amount of activities just a few steps away. They went fishing in the river behind the resort, painted t-shirts, played beach soccer, and tossed the ball around in the pool non-stop. This gives parents and older teens the chance to take a break and participate in activities on their own.
Overview + Opinion
Nanuku Auberge Resort is one of the most family-friendly and one of a kind resorts we have every visited. The breathtaking scenery and the amazing wildlife are definitely world-class. However, what truly made this trip special, was the staff. Every staff member, from your Villa Mama to the bartender, at the resort was kind and helpful and were eager to make connections with you and your family. We have never experienced such generosity and love from just a one-week vacation and we were actually very sad to leave. While the journey to Nanuku can be long and the stay can be expensive, it is very worth it. The Nanuku Auberge Resort in Fiji deserves a top spot on your bucket list.
