Fiji is a tropical country known for its clear waters and beautiful beaches and it may seem challenging to find family-friendly activities outside of you resort or hotel. However, I have compiled a list and narrowed it down to the top 3 things for your family to do in Fiji. In this post, you will find something for all kinds of families.

  1. Explore the capital city of Suva

Suva is a great city for just walking around and exploring the small shops, boutiques, and restaurants. It will give you and your family a look into the more urban parts of Fiji. While walking around, we shopped in local clothing stores, such as Rup’s Big Bear, and ate some delicious food from a local Indian restaurant. Suva is a very safe city, however, as in any city, don’t walk around alone at night. And a bonus, prices are significantly cheaper in the city and you made need cash, but there are many easily accessible ATMs. Overall, walking around the streets of Suva is a great way to immerse your family in the more citified part of Fiji.

2. Scuba Dive With Sharks

The Fiji Shark Population is known for being the best in the world and the world-class diving comes with it. While this activity is obviously not suited for younger kids, it will be the experience of a lifetime for older ones. As a teen, I can justify that this was the most breathtaking dive I have ever done and it is possible for kids to do it too (I was the second youngest to participate).

My mom, dad, and I dived with Beqa Adventure Divers and couldn’t have been more satisfied. All of the equipment was provided and the staff and dive masters were friendly and knowledgeable and we felt very safe. If you need additional assistance, a staff member will accompany you the whole time. Seeing the sharks up close and personal was something I was nervous for, but once you enter the water, the fear quickly goes away. This is truly an unforgettable experience and a must when visiting Fiji and Beqa Adventure Divers is the best dive shop to do it with!

3. Longboat down Navua River+Waterfall Hike

My whole family’s favorite activity in Fiji was our longboat trip and waterfall hike. It was easy to plan and suitable for all ages. We took a short van ride directly from hotel to a dock in Pacific Harbor. From there, we took a smooth 30 minute boat ride down the scenic Navua river. The surrounding landscape is lush and green and is home to many local villages. Then, we took a short hike to an ancient waterfall, which was safe for swimming, and enjoyed from fruits and snacks. Overall, this is a great activity for kids of all ages and is sure to be one of the best parts of your trip.

Overview + Opinion

Fiji is a unique country that has so much to offer, no matter what age. Our family really enjoyed all of these activities and I hope that this list has inspired you to take a trip to Fiji and venture outside of your comfort zone above and below the horizon.
